WELCOME
We are so glad you are here. Scouting is an interactive, educational, and active program that seeks to help our children grow as local, national, and global citizens. Below are some of the events and activities you can look forward to.
PACK MEETINGS
Everyone together. Usually held on the third Tuesday of the month during the school year. Each pack meeting has a theme focused on a special topic or activity such as Pinewood Derby, campfire & skits, first aid, camping, and Raingutter Regatta.
A pack meeting agenda is usually something like:
Opening Flags
Welcome & Announcements
Awards & Advancement
Pack Activity
Closing Flags
DEN MEETINGS
These are smaller groups divided by grade level, often meeting on most Tuesdays through the school year. Dens work through a set of Adventures as they earn their rank patch.
A den meeting could look like:
Opening game
Announcements
Activities focused on Adventures
HIKING
Our pack does kid friendly hikes throughout the year. Expect pack hikes to be about two miles in length, often with shorter options as well for our varying ages and abilities. Den hikes may vary. Scouts learn about carrying the Cub Scout Six Essentials and the Principles of Leave No Trace.
SERVICE PROJECTS
We do several service projects each year. Some are done with dens, and some with the whole pack. These serve to establish a connection to our greater community outside of Scouting by actively helping and being involved. These projects are also meant to instill in our kids a sense of the value of giving back. Recent projects include volunteering at local food banks, planting native plants along a nature trail, and picking up trash at the beach.
OUTINGS
& GO-SEE-ITS
Hands-on fun is at the core of Scouting. Both as dens and as a pack, we make trips to museums, companies, fish hatcheries, and have other experiences that give our Scouts and their families unique opportunities to experience our world.
SOME DEFINITIONS
DEN - A small group of Scouts (by grade level) that work through their handbook together to earn their rank.
LION - Kindergarten
TIGER - 1st Grade
WOLF - 2nd Grade
BEAR - 3rd Grade
WEBELOS - 4th Grade
ARROW OF LIGHT - 5th Grade
PACK - All dens together (all Scouts and their families) make up our pack. Cub Scouts is a family program. The entire family is welcome to attend most events.
ADVENTURE - A set of activities/requirements that together earn Scouts a belt loop (sort of like a merit badge). All are described in the den handbook. Six required Adventures and two elective Adventures are needed to earn their rank.
RANK - Each den is named by the grade level rank they are earning. When they have completed their eight Adventures, Scouts receive a rank patch to go on their uniform shirt.
